Webster's Dictionary defines "kindle" as this:
kindle–verb (used with object)
1. to start (a fire); cause (a flame, blaze, etc.) to begin burning.
2. to set fire to or ignite (fuel or any combustible matter).
3. to excite; stir up or set going; animate; rouse; inflame: He kindled their hopes of victory.
4. to light up, illuminate, or make bright: Happiness kindled her eyes.
I define kindle as this:
Ain't it purdy?
I can't believe I actually have one--Thank you Coolest Mother Ever. I was hesitant, I have to admit. Way hesitant. I didn't know if reading the printed page would be the same as reading the Kindle screen--It is! It really is! There are books on my shelves that haven't gotten hand-time and are extremely jealous right now.
But at this point, I don't care. (Sorry, sad little Sudden Death. Don't look so glum. Your Death came *rather Suddenly* before the Kindle graced my fingers. I started Carnal Sin, the second in Allison Brennan's Seven Deadly Sins series, and am now hooked beyond repair--Sudden Death is waiting until the other five in the series are written and published. Get to it, Brennan! *wink)
The rest can sit for awhile longer. At least until I've finished a book or two on the New and Interesting. They should understand the excitement and wonder. I've got a bright and shiny new Kindle 3 with 3G for crying out loud! (Thank you again Coolest Mother Ever! Wasn't that the perfect gift for getting an e-pub contract? An e-reader to e-read my e-book? Heh.)
I'm excited. Stirred up. Roused. Inflamed. Illuminated with joy. The true definition of kindle.
But don't worry books on my shelves, I won't set fire or ignite you. You won't become kindle. Not until I download you, anyway.

I received my Kindle about a week and a half ago. It is by far the coolest little thing ever.
I've gone through half a dozen books already on its flawless, flawless screen :0
lol I know exactly how you feel, although I have a Nook, not a Kindle.
Ooh, how fun! I really want an e-reader, but I also like to eat, and right now there's not enough money to do both...sigh. I'm glad you're enjoying yours!
I'm so jealous! I haven't gone digital yet, but I'm going to make the leap soon.
Brad--I haven't downloaded a single thing yet. I'm foolishly waiting for *mine*. Don't have a release date yet, but I thought it'd be cool to be able to say that the first book read on my kindle was my very own. The darn thing is burning a hole on my shelf though...don't know how much longer I can wait...
Nicole--Oooh, I got to hold a Nook in Orlando. They're very cool too!
Shallee--LOL! Yes, eating is priority, I must say. BUT books on kindle are cheaper than books in stores...Hmmmm
AJ--Like I said, I was hesitant. But so far, it's a very cool little machine. Can't wait to download something, but the first has got to be GOOD. It has to have purpose...I clearly have to think this through some more...
Haha! I've been in love with my nook for some time now. Although, as you've read on my blog, due to that dang design flaw I'm on #3 nook. But I still love it!
I'm asking for one of these for Christmas, totally. I played with one belonging to a friend and thought it was really neat. Not that I'll stop buying paperback books, but it'd be damned handy for toting around.
(Hello, fellow North Californian. ;) )
Deb--You know it's love when you have to replace it time and time again, yet still can't wait to get your hands on it.
Kelley--Hello right back atcha!
I don't think I'll stop buying paperback either. Call me sentimental, but there's a certain attachment that comes with my books. They're personal. I love them. I love their covers and how they're arranged on my shelf. I love the smell of new glue and paper. Oh, I'll still buy the must-haves. For the ones I need to read but don't need on my shelves, I'll download. Best of both worlds. :)
Hope you get your Christmas wish!
i remember your post about being hesitant for a kindle. but they sure are nice looking! haha.
i've thought about one but it's not quite in my budget right now, but probably someday!
and yeah i've heard winter song, such a great song!! and i'm stoked for your novel to hit shelves, i will be grabbing it!
Congratutions and what a great Mom! Have fun with your new toy...
I absolutely love my sony reader!
Congrats on the Kindle AND the publishing contract! So nice to have you on the Meet an Author Monday blog hop. :)
Not only is your mom the coolest mom ever, she is the best friend and next-room teacher too! Couldn't do it without her! A Kindle, how exciting, though I do love the feel of a book also, but nice to save some trees!
